Who hasn't played at least once those games of strategy and civilization, empire or business building? You can relive those magic moments thanks to Widelands. As you might be able to gather by now, Widelands is an open source single player strategy and resource management game.

In Widelands you play the part of the chief of a small tribe, and you have to administer the few resources you have at the start to build it and prosper. You start with just a few resources and a clan that needs looking after. You have to build shelters, use each member of your clan to complete tasks that benefit the community, get more resources, trade with other clans, build defences, etc.

In Widelands you have thousands of clan members, so telling them all individually what to do is impossible. Instead you just order the clan to complete a task, for example to construct a building or attack an enemy, and they will assign the builders or soldiers to the task. Everything is controlled by Widelands' very powerful artificial intelligence. Once you have mastered it you can extend your world, or even create new worlds.
